Our new book A Winter’s Tale From Clark’s Little Ark is on sale now £5
Most people love animals. And that lead to the almost inadvertent arrival of a special project that has become so popular it can boast a prestigious community award.
Clark’s Little Ark began life as home for Alison and Ian Shankly’s miniature Shetland ponies and donkeys.
The small piece of land near the old brickworks in Sanquhar soon began to attract interest from local people who, increasingly, began to visit.
That was in 2012 and, a year later, a family tragedy turned the venture into a heart warming and inspirational story.

This is such a special place. Alison is so warm and welcoming and the animals are clearly well cared for and happy. Fun place for children and adults to spend a couple of hours. We loved meeting all the animals and hearing a bit about their personalities and how they came to be living at the Ark. I left feeling very peaceful and looking forward to our next visit. ❤️

Wonderful place with an incredible story and ethos. The Ark was set up in memory of the owner's son and is named after him and now provides a wonderful tribute to the boy who loved animals. Young kids will love seeing the donkeys, goats, guinea pigs, chickens, rabbits, ponies but the highlight for everyone is the legend that is Percy Pig.

Visited here with my kids and what a great wee find. The place has a very personal story and it mean alot to the family. Its such a special we place and definitely made us smile! Alison made us feel so welcome letting us feed and pet the animals. How anyone can give a 1 star review is crazy! The family and volunteers are running this little place to put a smile on people faces with no drive for profit! Thank you again 😊
